Not only are these so called “companies” not our competition – they aren’t even reputable. It is not ethical for a consumer to waste Greeley Furnace’s time and money bidding against a company that does not meet building requirements. Please be aware that although the permit process does not assure quality and professionalism, it does assure the following, 1) the project must pass inspection to confirm that the work performed meets local codes and safety standards; 2) the contractor must be licensed and insured; 3) the people working at your home must be his employees and therefore covered by work-mans comp and other liability insurance to protect you the consumer; and 4) not having the permits and final inspection will most likely void any necessary coverage from your homeowners insurance. The companies not only save the price of the permit and its associated costs, they also put the consumer in a very vulnerable position. Once again, please be advised that Greeley Furnace respectfully declines to bid projects to customers that will accept bids from these illegitimate and illegal entities.
We do realize that almost 50% of the work done without permits is not done with the consumers blessing. As a matter of fact, we know that most consumers are surprised to learn after the fact that the entity, which they have trusted to do their work, has not pulled the legally required permits and may therefore not be licensed or insured. If you are one of the few consumers that have no concern for these building permit requirements, please note that Greeley Furnace is not interested in doing business with you. If you knowingly waste our time by asking us to bid against these illegitimate entities we will bill you for the time and associated costs. Also, we will inform the local municipality of the illegal installation at your home. If, however, you are one of those who do care and have been surprised to learn that no permit was pulled on a past project, we suggest that you call the local municipality and inform them of the completed job and the so-called contractors name, they will show you how to get the inspection you deserve at no cost to you.
Greeley Furnace cannot do all the H.V.A.C. work in Greeley and there are a certain percentage of the local customers that will not agree with our position on permits and ethical business practices. We respectfully ask that these consumers be honest with themselves, and us if saving the cost is more important than the permit and its benefits please do not call and waste our time. We are very happy dealing with the other percentage of consumers that want to deal only with above board and legitimate contractors, these are the customers that have supported our past successes and who we will build our future on. Greeley Furnace welcomes fair competition. We do realize that we will lose bids and customers from time to time in a competitive environment and will continue to be on call when you need us, as long as you do not intend to waste our time or effort.
Respectfully
Ben Hitchcock
